Reef Planting Scheduled!

Hey everyone, just want to give you a heads up that the reef planting is on schedule (weather permitting) for Saturday, July 6, 2019!

We need volunteers to come and help assemble the oyster castle blocks on the site on Carter's Creek here in Gloucester. We will need to do the work around low tide when the water will be only 2 feet deep! As it turns out, low tide will be at 7:30 am! That might be early for some of you but by 10:30 am, the water at the site will be 3 1/2 feet deep. That's a bit deep to bend over and place a block on the bottom, so you had better come early!

All volunteers will be required to register and sign a release of liability. We plan to have T-shirts for you to wear and/or an arm band to show that you have registered. Please mark your calendar now! Plan on bringing boots or old shoes that won't come off easily in mud for wading. Shells on the bottom can cut bare feet badly enough for stitches! A hat and sunscreen are recommended and plenty of water to drink.

We will release more details when we get closer to reef planting time! We hope to have as many as 50 volunteers there to help but can get the job done with fewer. We are not publicizing this planting widely because we have a limited number of blocks to plant and we want everyone to have the opportunity to plant at least one block on the reef. However, if you want to just come and cheer us on, you are welcome to do that as well. We hope to see you there!
